So wahr. Warum haben wir solche Angst davor, aufzufallen? Warum wollen wir so verzweifelt dazu gehören? Vielleicht ist es an der Zeit, einfach sein wunderbares Selbst zu sein, egal was Leute denken oder sagen.

Thierry Mugler war ein erfolgreicher Couture Designer, der bekannt ist für seine opulenten und futuristischen Designs. Jetzt wunderst du dich vielleicht, warum ich auf einem Blog, auf dem sich alles um Alternative Fashion dreht, über ihn schreibe. Das ist ganz einfach, ich denke wir können ein paar Dinge von ihm lernen.

1. Drama, Baby!
Zunächst einmal gibt es in seinen Kollektionen keine Angst vor Drama. Ich denke, Drama ist sogar eines der wichtigsten Stilmittel, die er benutzt. Wenn Looks ein bisschen over the top sind ist das ok, das Leben ist unsere Bühne, und wie Thierry Mugler gesagt hat, führen wir selber Regie - und das fängt vor dem Kleiderschrank an.

2. Inszeniere dich selbst!

Weiterhin ist Selbstinszenierung in seiner Welt nichts, wofür man sich schämen müsste. Du hast nur dieses eine Leben, also feierst du dich besser jeden Tag selbst als die Hauptrolle in deinem eigenen Film.

3. Attitüde 

Attitüde, ich habe den Eindruck, sie ist das wichtigste Element in seinem Konzept. Du kannst das schönste Kleid tragen, aber ohne die entsprechende Haltung und Einstellung zu dir selbst wird es nur halb so schön sein, soll bedeuten, stolz zu sein ist nichts Negatives in seiner Welt, genauso wenig, wie es seinen Selbstwert zu kennen und dem Ausdruck zu verleihen ist.

4. Sexappeal

Zu guter Letzt spielt er mit subtiler Erotik, zum Beispiel indem er die Form des Körpers übertrieben betont. Er hat in seinen Designs keine Angst vor sexuellem Selbstausdruck, das jedoch, ohne je vulgär oder billig zu sein.

Warum Alternative Fashion, was ist die Background Story? In letzter Zeit wurde ich das oft gefragt. 

Zunächst sollte ich an dieser Stelle vielleicht erstmal festmachen, was genau Alternative Fashion eigentlich für mich ist. Grundsätzlich meine ich damit Mode, die sich weniger an Trends, dafür mehr am eigenen Geschmack orientiert. Ich meine Mode, die man in der Regel länger als nur eine Saison lang trägt, Mode, die vielleicht etwas über dich und deine Persönlichkeit verrät. Ganz wichtig: ich rede nicht über Marken, den auch Alternative Fashion ist nur ein Markt. Ich rede über Mode, die sich nicht durch den Mainstream definiert, sondern über Mode, die als Selbstausdruck dient, über Mode, die Platz für dich und deine Persönlichkeit macht, anstatt dich gleichzuschalten mit einem Trend oder eine Marke. Wenn ich über Alternative Fashion rede, meine ich eher auch einen bestimmten, persönlichen, manchmal auch gewagten, außergewöhnlichen oder auffälligen Stil, ich meine Charakter, Mut und Meinung, auch zum allgemeinen Fashion Zirkus. Stellst du Fragen? Interessiert dich, wer unter welchen Bedingungen dein Shirt gemacht hat? Kaufst du Second Hand oder tauschst du? Weißt du selbst, was dir gefällt und was dich anspricht oder folgst du der Indoktrinierung von Werbung, von Medien und Konzernen? Hinter dem Begriff Alternative Fashion steckt viel mehr für mich, es ist eine Haltung, zu sich selbst, zu Konsum und zur Fashion Welt.

Warum also Alternative Fashion? Weil ich Trends nicht als gegeben hinnehmen will, weil ich keinem Modediktat folgen will, sondern stattdessen mir selber treu bleiben will. Weil ich mich selber frage, für was ich stehen will und wer ich bin, weil ich hinterfrage, wer gewisse Regeln erstellt, wer jedes Jahr bestimmt, welchem Trend-Befehl wir folgen müssen um hip, angesagt und up-to-date zu sein, weil ich mich dieser beschissenen Maschinerie entziehen will und lieber meine eigene Persönlichkeit und Kreativität entdecken will, deshalb.

Wie hat es angefangen? Gute Frage, ich muss weit ausholen und zurückblicken, denn viele Faktoren haben da eine Rolle gespielt. Zunächst einmal war da Barbie und in unterschiedlichen Sachen, hat sie für mich unterschiedliche Rollen gespielt. Es war möglich, mit verschiedenen „Outfits“ verschiedene Charaktere darzustellen. Das Spiel mit Identitäten hat mich schon damals fasziniert. Dann habe ich den Film „Susan … verzweifelt gesucht“ gesehen - lasst mich acht gewesen sein oder neun - und ich wußte, so wie Madonna in dem Film, so will ich aussehen, so will ich sein. Ich war fasziniert von ihren Looks und ihrem Selbstbewusstsein. Das war ein Frauenbild, das mir bis dahin noch nicht untergekommen war, mit dem ich mich aber irgendwie identifizieren konnte. Das weitere Geschehen nahm seinen Lauf als ich durch meine ältere Schwester mit zwölf oder dreizehn so langsam Punkrock und Grunge für mich entdeckte – das war irgendwie anders, freier, trotziger. Das hat mir gefallen, auch die Art und Weise, sich mit Looks gegen den Status Quo zu positionieren, ich mochte die Kreativität, die DIY-Mentalität, das Abgefuckte, vielleicht auch als als Antwort auf diesen omnipräsenten Druck in unserer Gesellschaft, grade auch als heranwachsendes junges Mädchen, immer angepasst sein zu müssen. Unterm Strich ist das einfach bei mir hängen geblieben, das ist wer ich bin. Deshalb ist Alternative Fashion auch heute noch etwas, das mich begeistern kann – es geht um etwas, das echt ist, authentisch und ehrlich und natürlich macht Mode und das Spiel mit verschiedenen Identitäten auch heute noch Spaß, wie damals bei Barbie.

Why Alternative Fashion, what's the background story? I was confronted with this question quite often in the last time, so I thought it's time to just share my story with you. 

First of all I guess, I have to define, what exactly Alternative Fashion is to me. All in all, when I'm talking about Alternative Fashion, I'm talking about fashion, that is less trend fixated but more individual. I'm talking about clothes you wear for a longer time, not just for one season. I'm talking about fashion, that reveals something about you and your personality. Very important: I'm not talking about brands, since Alternative Fashion is just a market as well. I'm talking about fashion, not being defined by mainstream, I'm talking about fashion as self-expression, about fashion that leaves space for you and  your personality, instead of being synchronized with a trend or a brand. If I'm talking about Alternative Fashion, I'm talking about personal style, about bold, extraordinary, strinking looks, about character, courage and beliefs. Are you asking questions? Do you want to know who made your shirt under which circumstances? Do you buy second hand, are you swapping? Do you know by yourself what you like and what speaks to you or are you indoctrinated by advertisement and media? So Alternative Fashion is much more to me, than just fashion, it's an attitude, a position to consumerism, to the fashion circus and yourself.

So why Alternative Fashion? Because I don't take trends unquestioned as given, because I don't want to follow what the industry dictates, because I want to stay true to myself. Because I want to answer the question "Who am I?" for myself, because I question who makes up all these rules, who decides and commands, what is going to be trending next season, because I don't want to be part of this fucked up machinery, because I want to express and discover my personality and my creativity through fashion, that's why.

When did all of this start for me? Good question, I have to go way back to my childhood to answer this one. At first there was Barbie. I discovered, that with different clothes she could play different characters and roles. Seems I was fascinated by playing with identity already back then. Then I saw the movie "Desperately Seeking Susan" when I was eight or nine years old and I remember it had such an impact on me, I knew I wanted to be like and look like Madonna in the movie. I was fascinated by her confidence and her looks. That was a kind of role model I never came across before. Everything developed further, when I first got in contact with punk rock and grunge with the age of twelve or thirteen thanks to my older sister. That was different, much more free and defiant in a way. I kind of liked that, the way how these people stood out from the crowd, how they clearly positioned themselves against the status quo with the help of their clothes. I liked the creativity, the diy-mentality, the fucked up, run-down looks as a middle finger and maybe also as an answer to the omnipresent pressure, especially as an adolescent girl, of always acting as required and expected by society. In the end this somehow got stuck to me, this is who I am. That's why Alternative Fashion is still a topic I'm passionate about. It's about being real, authentic and true to oneself and of course it's still a lot of fun to play with different facettes of oneself and identity, just like back then with Barbie.

Nancy of Glam Retro Style

Closet Confidence zu haben bedeutet zu wissen, wer man ist. Es bedeutet zu wissen, was man mag und was man bevorzugt. Es geht dabei um die eigene Persönlichkeit. Ich würde sogar so weit gehen und sagen, dass Closet Confidence eine Einstellung ist, eine Einstellung zu sich selbst, genauer gesagt eine Einstellung der Akzeptanz und ein Ausdruck der Freude an sich selbst und dem Individuum, das man ist. Closet confidence hat man, wenn man ein klares Bild von sich selbst hat. Automatisch kümmert man sich weniger darum, was Leute über einen denken könnten und man verurteilt auch weniger selbst, da man Mode als Ausdruck des Selbst versteht, als ein Stück Freiheit und als Spielplatz für die verschiedenen Facetten von einem selbst.

Closet Confidence war noch nie unbedingt ein Thema für mich. Ich habe es schon immer geliebt, mich rauszuputzen und verschiedene Styles für verschiedene Stimmungen und Anlässe auszuprobieren. Mode ist und war schon immer wie ein Spiel für mich. Dennoch, meinen Kleiderschrank immer wieder neu zu entdecken und zu erweitern ist immer eine Freude. Deshalb will ich diesen Monat an einer Challenge teilnehmen, bist du dabei?

Closet confidence is about knowing who you are. It is about knowing what you like and prefer. It is about your personality. I would even dare to say, it is a state of mind, a state of accepting and enjoying yourself as the individual you are. Closet confidence is gained when you have a clear picture of yourself. Automatically you care less about what people might think about you and you tend to be less judgemental yourself since you understand clothing as a tool of expression of the self, as a space of freedom and a playground for the different facettes of yourself.

Closet confidence was never really a topic for me. I always loved dressing up, trying out different styles for different moods and occasions. Fashion is and always was joy and kind of a game to me. Still though, improving and exploring my wardrobe is always fun.That's why I want to go on a challenge this month, are you with me?

Geburtstage ... man denkt über diese Zahl nach und darüber, was man erreicht hat oder auch nicht. Man denkt über Ziele nach und über die Zukunft. Wie ich in meinem vorhergehenden Blog-Post erwähnt habe, hatte ich in der Vergangenheit Höhen und Tiefen in meinem Leben, die mich entweder angetrieben oder auch davon abgehalten haben, mit Anti.Muse weiter zu machen. Heute bin ich nach wie vor sehr dankbar dafür, dass ich meinem Blog immer treu geblieben bin. Es ist nämlich schön, durch das was man liebt verschiedene Menschen kennen zu lernen, außerdem lerne ich in dem Prozess auch immer über mich selbst. Mein Blog ist wie ein alter Freund für mich, der mich auffängt, mich aber auch herausfordert.

Ich möchte mich bei euch bedanken, dafür, dass ihr immer noch mit mir hier seid. Ich möchte mich bei Elisa von styleBizarre bedanken, dafür dass sie nun schon so lange eine wirklich loyale Blogger-Freundin und Wegbegleiterin ist, ich will Tominous danke sagen für jedes anregende Gespräch das wir hatten, seit es Anti.Muse gibt, ich will Jen danke sagen, dafür dass sie mich immer unterstützt. Ich will mich bei jedem bedanken, der Anti.Muse liest und verfolgt was wir mach, ich will mich bei jedem bedanken, der mit uns und interagiert oder kollaboriert - es bedeutet mir viel. Ein großes Danke geht auch an alle, die letzten Sonntag mit mir Anti.Muse's 4. Geburtstag gefeiert haben, es war mir eine Freude - und an die, die nicht dabei sein konnten, wir sehen uns im nächsten Jahr.

Lektionen, die ich letzten Sonntag gelernt habe:

Hey ihr Lieben, einige von euch haben es vielleicht auf Instagram oder Facebook mitbekommen, wir werden 4 am Sonntag und feiern das. Es ist unglaublich, wie die Zeit vergeht. Manchmal kann ich kaum glauben, dass dieser Blog nun schon seit 4 Jahren ein Teil meines Lebens ist.

Wisst ihr, ich bin kein Likedigger, ich kann aufrichtig sagen, dass das, was mir dieser Blog bisher gegeben hat, sich nicht in Zahlen messen lässt. Mal davon abgesehen, dass mir dieser Blog dabei geholfen hat, auf ganz unterschiedliche Weise zu wachsen, davon Stück für Stück hässliche Unsicherheiten loszuwerden bis hin zu dem Glück, dass ich momentan vom Schreiben leben kann, hat mir Anti.Muse dabei geholfen, mich selbst zu finden und auf dem Weg wundervolle Menschen zu treffen.

Was bedeutet Anti.Muse also für mich? Anti.Muse steht für mich dafür zu versuchen, sich selbst zu gefallen, anstatt einer bestimmten Norm zu entsprechen. Anti.Muse bedeutet du selbst zu bleiben in einer Welt, die dich ständig zurecht biegen will, in einer Welt, die dir ständig erzählt, dass du nicht gut genug bist, es nie sein wirst. Anti.Muse bedeutet selbst deine eigene Vorstellung von Schönheit und Style zu definieren, deine Weirdness zu akzeptieren, ja sie zu umarmen. Anti.Muse bedeutet die Einzigartigkeit deines Wesen zu feiern, genauso wie Kreativität und Kunst. Anti.Muse bedeutet, mit der Dualität des Lebens, der Dualität in dir und um dich herum, zu leben. Anti.Muse heißt fallen und wieder aufstehen. Anti.Muse heißt, die kleinen Dinge des Lebens zelebrieren, aber nie aufhören, nach Größerem zu streben. Anti.Muse heißt, sich an dir selber festzuhalten, in guten wie in schlechten Zeiten. Wenn man so will ist Anti.Muse mein Weg, ja zum Leben zu sagen, ja zu einem Leben, in dem ich genauso wie einige von euch manchmal mit Einsamkeit oder Traurigkeit kämpfen muss. Es gab Zeiten, in denen hatte ich keine Energie dazu, mit dem Blog weiter zu machen, aber es gab auch Zeiten in denen genau mein Blog es war, der mich einfach hat irgendwie weiter machen lassen, wenn alles um mich herum oder in mir nur traurig war.

Dieser Blog Geburtstag ist für mich also ein wirklicher Grund zu feiern und das mache ich mit ein paar Freunden bei einem gemütlichen In-House Anti.Flohmarkt zu dem ihr herzlich eingeladen seid. Wir haben nicht nur Champagner, sondern auch Kuchen und Alternative Fashion Schnäppchen von Dr. Martens bis zu Pinup Girl Clothing, von T.U.K Shoes bis zu Mad Cult, einige der Sachen sind auf den Bildern hier zu sehen. Wenn ihr also in Berlin seid und Lust darauf habt, gemeinsam abzuhängen, dann kommt vorbei und sagt "HI", ich freue mich auf euch.

Hey girls and boys, some of you may have already heard via Instagram or Facebook that we have a thing going on this sunday. Yes, it's true, we're already celebrating our 4th birthday. Time flies, I can tell you! I sometimes can not believe, that it's already 4 years, that Anti.Muse is such a huge part of my life.

You know, I'm not a likedigger, I can honestly say, what this blog gave me so far is not measurable in numbers. Apart from the fact that this blog helped me grow in many ways, from getting more and more rid of ugly insecurities to finally write for a living, Anit.Muse helped me finding myself and so many wonderful people along the way.

So what does Anti.Muse mean to me? It means trying to please yourself and not the common standard. It means being yourself in a world that is constantly trying to tell you that you have to be this way or that way or that you're not and never will be good enough. It means defining your own terms of beauty and style and also accepting your weird and embracing it. It's about celebrating the unique human beings we are, it means celebrating creativity and art. It means living with the duality of life, outside and inside of yourself. It means breaking apart and getting up again. It means celebrating the small things in life but still not stopping striving for more. It means surviving. It means holding on to yourself, through good and bad. Anti.Muse is my way of saying yes to life in a way, coping with alienation, isolation, loneliness and depression some days, just like some of you do in silence. I sometimes couldn't bring up the energy to go on with the blog, but other times, when I was sad and couldn't express my sadness through words, this blog often just keept me going by doing something and eventually it helped me, to get through hard times, from losing loved ones to going through breakups.

So this birthday is really a reason to celebrate and I'm doing this with some friends and a little in-house Anti.Fleamarket which I invite you to join if you're around. We're not only having champagne and cake but also alternative fashion bargains from Dr. Martens to Pinup Girl Clothing, from T.U.K. Shoes to Mad Cult, some of them you see in the pictures of this post. So sehr ich auf Alternative Fashion stehe, bin ich doch auch ein großer Fan von altem Hollywood Glamour und vergangenen Epochen. Ich erinner' mich, schon als Kind haben mich Filme wie "Der Dieb von Bagdad" schwer beeindruckt. Ich war angetan vom Glanz alter Hollywood Filme und ganz besonders begeistert haben mich all die überirdisch schönen Kostüme und Kleider.

Einer der Zauberer hinter der Illusion, dem Spektakel 'Film', ist immer der Kostüm Designer und für die Ära von Golden Hollywood war das Gilbert Adrian für das berühmte Filmstudio MGM. Der legendäre Kostüm Designer hat u.a. Kleider und Kostüme für Filme wie "Marie Antoinette" (1938) und "Mata Hari" (1931) entworfen. Unvergessliche Filmschönheiten wie Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford oder Jean Harlow trugen seine Kleider. Darüber hinaus entwarf er die wohl berühmtesten Schuhe der Filmgeschichte, die Ruby Red Slippers die Judy Garland als Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939) trug. Für mich versinnbildlichen seine Entwürfe die Essenz des Glamour von Old Hollywood: Eleganz, Opulenz und eine gewaltige Einbildungs- und Schaffenskraft die alles märchenhaft verzaubert. Deshalb begeistern seine Entwürfe noch heute, sie sind zeitlos schön - gefallen sie euch auch?

As much as I'm into Alternative Fashion, I'm into old Hollywood glamour and era's gone by too. I remember, as a kid watching movies like "The Thief of Bagdad" (1940), I was always facinated with the beauty of Hollywood glamour, I found it charming and of course fell in love with the breathtaking out-of-the-world costumes and robes too.

One of the magicans behind creating the illusion, the spectacle, that a movie is, is always a costume designer and for the era of Golden Hollywood, it was Gilbert Adrian for the famous film-studio MGM. The legendary costume designer was creating dresses for movies like "Marie Antoinette" (1938) and "Mata Hari" (1931), unforgettable stars like Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford and Jean Harlow wore his dresses. Also Gilbert Adrian is the creator of one of the most famous pair of shoes in Hollywood history, the ruby red slippers Judy Garland wore as Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). To me his creations are a perfect representation of what the glamour of old Hollywood is about: elegance, opulence, imagination. That's why his work is still leaving me in awe and inspires me. His creations are of timeless beauty, but have a look for yourself and let me know if you're a fan of old Hollywood too.

Inmitten einer texanischen Wüstenlandschaft, dem Boulevard entrissen, von ihrem eigentlichen Kontext befreit, wirkt die Boutique überflüssig und fremd. Ich bin ganz bestimmt kein Kunstkritiker und will mich sicher nicht an einer Interpretation von Prada Marfa versuchen, aber ganz gewiss schätze ich Kunst, die etwas in mir auslöst, mich zur Einnahme einer neuen Perspektive nötigt und mich zum Nachdenken anregt. Genau das macht die Installation des Künstlerduos Elmgreen & Dragset, denn der Prada Store bei Marfa ist kein gewöhnlicher, er ist versiegelt, nicht zugänglich, er ist ein Objekt, ein Fremdkörper in einer Wüste, er steht einfach da und verfällt irgendwann.

Man kann das nun gut oder schlecht finden, sinnvoll oder unnütz, denn ob das Kunstwerk nun Konsumkritik oder Werbekampagne ist, die Frage bleibt offen. Ein Geniestreich ist es allemal. Was haltet ihr von der Prada Installation im Niemandsland?

In a desert in the middle of Texas, taken away from the boulevard, out of it's usual context, the boutique seems lost and out of place. I'm not an art critic at all and I surley wont write an interpretation of Prada Marfa, but I definitely appreciate art that forces me to think and to change my perspective. This is, was the installation of the artits Elmgreen & Dragset did to me, cause Prada Marfa is not a usual Prada store - it's sealed, not open to public or anybody, it's an object, a foreign matter in a desert. It's just waiting there to fall apart.

You can like it or not, you can think it's meaningful or unnecessary - the question if the installation is a piece of art or just a good advertising campagne is left open for anybody to find their own answer. To me it's a masterstroke in both cases. What do you think of the Prada installation in the middle of nowhere?

Book-Junkie der ich bin, habe ich mir neulich mal wieder selber ein Geschenk gemacht, nämlich die Autobiographie von Helmut Newton, die schon so lange auf meinem Wunschzettel stand. Für jeden, der ein bisschen mehr über seinen Werdegang, seine Karriere, Arbeitsweise und sein Leben wissen will genau das Richtige. Genau das Richtige aber auch, wenn man einfach nur ein spannendes Buch lesen will. Es ist herrlich unterhaltsam geschrieben und manchmal kann man kaum glauben, dass das tatsächlich alles in einem einzigen Leben passiert ist. Es fängt an mit einer Beschreibung seiner Kindheit im Vorkriegs-Berlin, geht weiter mit der Emigration nach Singapur und der Internierung in Australien. Von da aus geht es weiter nach Paris, London, New York und Monte Carlo. Immer dabei: die Liebe zur Fotografie und die Leidenschaft, eine große Karriere zu begründen. Viele Menschen kreuzen dabei seinen Weg - immer an seiner Seite: seine Frau June. Nicht nur ein frischer, unbekümmerter Schreibstil, auch Newtons positive Sicht auf das Leben versprüht Vitalität und Optimismus. Eine runde Sache also, diese Autobiographie, die ich damit wärmstens empfehlen kann.

As the book junkie I am, I've made myself a present recently. I got myself the autobiography of Helmut Newton - it was on my wishlist for a very long time. You get to know a lot about Newton from this book - nearly everything about his career, his work and his life. In my opinion it's not just for Newton fans, but also for people who like to read a thrilling and entertaining book. Sometimes it's hard to imagine that all the crazy things really happend in just one single life. It starts with his childhood in prewar Berlin, goes on with his emigration to Singapur and his detention in Australia. From Australia it goes to Paris, to London, New York, Monte Carlo. Always in his luggage: a camera, and the desire to become a great, well-known photographer. Many people crossing his path - always at his side throughout a lifetime: his wife June. Not just the easygoing style of writing, but also Newtons view on life, which is always very positive, is making this book super easy to read. It's so entertaining, that's why I highly recommend it.

Meine tiefste Bewunderung gilt diesem Mann, der mit seinen intensiven, eindringlichen Aufnahmen ein ganzes Genre, nämlich das der Mode- und Werbefotografie, verändert hat. Die einen fühlen sich durch seine Arbeit provoziert, die anderen genießen sie. Porno versus Kunst - das war in der Diskussion um Helmut Newtons Werke schon immer so. Am 23.01.2004 ist er, einer der einflussreichsten Fotografen unserer Zeit, mit 83 Jahren bei einem Autounfall in Los Angeles ums Leben gekommen. Im gleichen Jahr, wenige Monate später, eröffnete in Berlin das Museum für Fotografie, in welchem seitdem auch die Helmut Newton Stiftung ihren Sitz hat. Im Oktober 2003 noch von Helmut Newton selbst gegründet, hat sie die Aufgabe, die Arbeiten von Helmut und June Newton (auch bekannt als Alice Springs) zu repräsentieren. In diesem Jahr feiert die Stiftung mit den Ausstellungen "Us and Them" und "Sex and Landscapes" ihr 10jähriges Bestehen. Während "Us and Them" nicht nur Celebrity Portaits zeigt, sondern thematisch auch das Zusammenleben von Helmut und June Newton aufgreift, geht es in "Sex and Landscapes" eher um den erotischen, voyeuristischen Aspekt, der so bezeichnend ist für Newtons Arbeit, aber auch großformatige Landschaftsaufnahmen werden hier gezeigt. Beide Ausstellungen sind noch bis zum 16.11. diesen Jahres im Museum für Fotografie in Berlin zu sehen. Bist du ein Newton Fan? Dann nichts wie los zum Museum für Fotografie.

My deepest admiration goes to this man, who changed the whole genre of fashion and advertising photography with his intense and powerful pictures. Some people are feeling disturbed and provoked by his photos, others enjoy. Porno versus art - it has always been this way in the discussion about Helmut Newtons work. On the 23rd of january in 2004 he, one of the most influential photographers of our time, died after a car crash at the age of 83. Only a couple of month later, in june 2004, the Berlin Museum of Photography opened, where since then, the Helmut Newton Foundation occupies the two lower floors. Founded in 2003 from Helmut Newton himself the foundation has the function to represent the works of Helmut and June Newton (also known as Alice Springs). This year the 10th birthday of the Foundation is celebrated with two amazing exhibitions. "Us and Them" not only displays an interesting variety of celebrity portraits, through the medium of photography it also highlights the everyday life of Helmut and June Newton. "Sex and Landscapes" displays some of the iconic erotic and voyeuristic works of Newton for which he became so well known, but it also includes huge, impressive landscapes as well. Heute, zum Welttag des Buches, gibt es auf Anti.Muse meine erste Book Review. Ich möchte euch von einem Buch erzählen, dass ich mir über die letzten Monate wie eine kostbare Schokolade, Stück für Stück, Kapitel für Kapitel, eingeteilt habe. Die Rede ist von "Talking Fashion", einem Buch, das die Modewelt aus so vielen unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln und mit so vielen verschiedenen Fragestellung in den Blick nimmt, dass daraus wie kaum sonst ein großes Ganzes wird. Zu verdanken hat der geneigte Mode-Fan diese moderne Fashion-Bibel dem Redakteur und Kulturjournalisten Jan Kedves.

 Es handelt sich bei "Talking Fashion" um eine Sammlung von 25 Interviews, die Jan Kedves mit vielen unterschiedlichen Persönlichkeiten, allesamt Protagonisten der Modewelt, geführt hat. Rick Owens, Iris van Herpen, Raf Simons, Malcom McLaren, Damir Doma, Helmut Lang - die Namen der involvierten Designer lesen sich wie das Who is Who der Fashionszene, aber auch Modehistoriker, Laufstegtrainer, Fotografen, Models oder Hairstylisten kommen zu Wort. Eben das macht "Talking Fashion" so besonders, denn jeder Interviewpartner beleuchtet eine andere Facette der Welt der Mode. So wirft das ehemalige Model Veruschka die Frage auf, was überhaupt Schönheit ist, während Raf Simons oder Michele Gaubert über Mode als Code in Subkultur und Musik philosophieren. Diane Pernet beschreibt den Zusammenhang von Mode und Film, während Valerie Steele die Mode als Kunst proklamiert und Damir Doma sie als eine Form des Selbstausdrucks und als Mittel zur Kommunikation betrachtet.

Mehr als deutlich wird an "Talking Fashion", dass Mode eben "viel mehr ist, als das was Designer machen.". Wer also "das Phänomen Mode begreifen will," dem sei das Buch "Talking Fashion" wärmstens empfohlen.

Today is World Book Day and I want to honour this festivity with my first book review here on Anti.Muse. I want to tell you about a book, which I enjoyed reading chapter by chapter during the last months. The talk is of "Talking Fashion", a book which looks at the fashion industry from many different views and perspectives. Fashion fans have to say thank you to Jan Kedves, who is an editor and culture journalist, for putting this new fashion bible together.

"Talking Fashion" consists of 25 awesome interviews Kedves has done with many different personalities out of the fashion world. Rick Owens, Iris van Herpen, Raf Simons, Malcom McLaren, Damir Doma and Helmut Lang are only some of the designers that raise their voices in the book. But not only fashion designers, also fashion historians, catwalktrainer, photographer, models and hairstylists tell their stories and reflect their views on fashion and the industry from their point of view. That is what makes "Talking Fashion" a very special book, cause many different facettes and aspects of one and the same thing are shown. So the former model Veruschka reflects on what beauty is, Raf Simons or Michele Gaubert are talking about fashion as a code in music and subculture, Diane Pernet reflects on fashion in film, while Valerie Steele proclaims that fashion is art and Damir Doma reflects on fashion as a way to communicate.

With "Talking Fashion" it's abundantly clear, that fashion is way more than what designers are doing. So to who ever wants to understand the phenomenon fashion with it's many different faces, I really recommend reading "Talking Fashion".

Also hab ich mir diesen Stichtag mal als Anlass genommen, nach 10 stylishen Pärchen Ausschau zu halten - denn wenn einer alleine hübsch daher kommt ist das schon schön anzusehen, aber wenn zwei es im Doppelpack tun ist das noch besser. We're all in love with romance, aren't we?! Everybody likes to have butterlies in their stomach. Valentines Day virtually is the icing on the cake of the glorification of couple-ism. So I chose this day, to put a list of the top 10 most stylish couples together - cause if one is looking good it's always nice to look at, but if two are looking fabulous together it's even better. So this is my best dressed / hottest couple selection so far. Did i miss someone? Which couple is on top of your "Favourite-couples-of-all-time" list? Do you shit on couple-ism or are you a couple-performer? 2014 ist da und liegt uns zu Füßen - jeder schaut am Anfang eines Jahres gespannt in die Zukunft, ihr auch? Was habt ihr euch für das neue Jahr vorgenommen? Bei mit steht viel auf der Agenda - eine neue Wohnung finden, einen neuen Job, ein neues Leben.

Apropos Zukunft. Ich möchte euch gern Ruth Hogben vorstellen. Sie macht Filme. Nicht irgendwelche Filme, sondern Fashion Filme die hypnotisieren. Ich könnte mich in ihrer Arbeit verlieren, bin von ihrer Bildsprache und der Ästhetik ihrer Filme absolut fasziniert. Die ehemalige Assistentin von Nick Knight hat schon mit verschiedenen Designern und Labels zusammen gearbeitet - mit Gareth Pugh, Alexander McQueen oder auch Fendi. Für Lady Gaga hat sie die Visuals ihrer letzten US-Tour entworfen.

Was meint ihr, brauchen wir in Zeiten der Digitalisierung noch Editorials, wenn es Filme wie die von Ruth Hogben gibt? Werden Print-Magazine aussterben, ist Fashion Film die Zukunft? Habt ihr einen Lieblings - Fashion Film?

With 2014 arriving, we're ready to embrace the future. What are your plans for the new year? For me there're a lot of things to do in 2014 - find a new home, a new job, a new life.

Speaking of future, I want to introduce to you Ruth Hogben. She is a filmmaker. Not only she makes filmes, but fashion films that are hypnotising. I totally could get lost in her work. I am facinated by her visual language and the aesthetics of her films. The former assistent of Nick Knight already has colaborated with well known designers and brands, such as Gareth Pugh, Alexander McQueen or Fendi and she has also made some visuals for Lady Gagas latest US Tour.

What do you think, in times of the digitalisation, when there are films like the ones of Ruth Hogben - do we still need editorials or is fashion film the future and printed magazines are dead? What are your favourite fashion films?

Es gibt sie, diese Menschen, die nur so sprühen vor Leben. Menschen, denen du Stunden lang zuhören könntest, wenn sie dir ihre Geschichte erzählen. Menschen, die immer ihrem eigenen Weg gefolgt sind, ohne Rücksicht auf Normen und Konventionen. Michele Lamy ist ganz bestimmt einer dieser Menschen. Algerischer Abstammung, geboren in Frankreich, hat sie schon viele Karrieren hinter sich: dem Studium der Strafverteidigung und der Philosophie folgte ein Ausflug in das Stripper-Milieu, dann war sie Cabaret Performerin, Designerin, erfolgreiche Gastronomin in LA, Mutter, Stylistin und Creative Consultant - sie ist die Muse, Ehefrau, Förderin und außerdem Businesspartnerin von Rick Owens, mit dem sie seit 2006 verheiratet ist. Ihr Stil ist an Originalität kaum zu übertreffen - beeinflusst von den Nomaden und dem alten Ägypten trägt sie viel Schmuck. Die mit Henna gefärbten Fingerspitzen sind zu einem Markenzeichen geworden, genau wie die vergoldeten Zähne. 2003 ist das Paar nach Paris gezogen, wo es gemeinsam die Möbellinie des Designers aufgebaut hat. Ihr Alter ist ein Geheimnis - aber spielt das eine Rolle?! Älter zu werden scheint nichts Schlimmes zu sein wenn man jeden Tag sprüht vor Leben. Ich finde das herrlich - da ist eine Frau die beweist, dass Charakter und Persönlichkeit viel attraktiver sein können, als die nächste weggespritzte Falte. Seid ihr davon auch so begeistert wie ich?

There are people, that are brimming with a special energy. People, you could listen to all night long when they're telling their story. People, who always did it their own way, neither it equates to the common standard or not. Michele Lamy surely is one of those people. Of algerian descent, born in france, she had many careers. She's worked as a defense attorney and studied philosophy, she was a stripper, a cabaret performer, designer, owner of the legendary 90ies restaurant  "Le Deux Cafés" in LA, mother, stylist and creative consultant - she is the muse, wife, supporter and business partner of Rick Owens, to whom she is married since 2006. Her style is very original - she is influenced by the nomads and the ancient egypts, so she has gilded teeth, wears a lot of jewelry and her fingertips are stained in black. In 2003 the couple moved to Paris where it builded up the designers furniture line. Her age is a secret - but does it matter?! Getting older seems not so bad if you're at peace with yourself. I think it's amazing that there is a woman, who proves that it's personality that makes us beautilful and not the next botox injection. What do you think?
