In den 60iger und frühen 70iger Jahren war sie ihrer Zeit einen Schritt voraus, war "Punk at heart", bevor Punk da war, das Herz auf der Zunge, die Liebe zur Lyrik und zur Kunst im Blut. Es gibt sie noch, authentischen Role Models in einer Gesellschaft, die ständig versucht Frauen zu sexualisieren, zu banalisieren und nach einem vermeintlichen Ideal zu verbiegen. Sie hat sich nie verbiegen lassen, ist immer sich selbst treu geblieben. Die Rede ist von Patti Smith, die nicht nur mit ihren Songs Musikgeschichte geschrieben hat, sondern die auch mit ihrem Style Generationen nach ihr beeinflusst hat. Androgyn, lässig nachlässig, nonchalant. Less is more. Ein weiterer illustrer Beweis dafür, dass Individualität Trends immer um Längen schlägt. They still exist, authentic role models in a society which constantly tries to sexualize, banalize and bend over women. Patti Smith never bent, she was always herself. Not only did she write music history with some of her songs, but also she influenced generations after her with her androgynous, cool and careless look. Another proof that individuality always beats trends. Since we like her attitude and look so much we thought it was about time to nominate Patti Smith as a Style Icon for this rubric on Anti.Muse. Sid Vicious - the face of punk, the "fabulous disaster", das Symbol des Punkrock, starb heute vor 35 Jahren an einer Überdosis Heroin, grade mal 21 Jahre jung, und nur einen Tag nach seiner Entlassung aus dem Gefängnis, in dem er wegen Mordverdachts an seiner Freundin Nancy Spungen in Haft war. Nicht nur, dass sich die Geschichte von Sid und Nancy zu einer Legende versponnen hat, auch modisch hat der Look der beiden in der Nachwelt Spuren hinterlassen. Natürlich ist es der Look einer ganzen Ära - aber grade Sid war eben ihr Vorreiter und Aushängeschild. Er hat damit Generationen bis heute beeinflusst. Er war ein Meister der Provokation (Hakenkreuz-Shirt), genauso wie er ein Meister der Selbstzerstörung war. Nietengürtel, Lederjacke, zerschnittene Shirts, zerrissene Hosen - expession through fashion. Im letzten Jahr hat sich das Metropolitain Museum of Art in New York mit der Ausstellung "Chaos to Couture" sogar mit dem Einfluss von Punk Fashion auf die Modewelt befasst. The story of Sid and Nancy became a punkrock legend, but also their style had a very deep impact on fashion till today. Of course it is the look of a whole era - but Sid was a figurehead and a pioneer of punk fashion. He was a master of provocation (the swastika shirt) as he was a master of selfdestruction. A studded belt, a leatherjacket, shredded shirts and ripped pants - expression through fashion. In 2013 even the Metropolitain Museum of Art paid tribute to the the influence punk had on the fashion world with the exhibition "Chaos to Couture". If Sid have liked it? I don't think so. Nach wie vor hat das 90ies-Revival die Fashionwelt fest im Griff. "Clueless" ist rückwirkend zum Kultfilm ernannt worden, Buffalo's sind wieder da, bauchfrei auch - aber die 90ies waren mehr als die komische Nachgeburt der Achtziger, die 90ies waren auch Grunge und Alternative Rock. So gab es zum Glück für heranwachsende Mädels wie mich damals auch Role Models jenseits von Cher Horowitz oder den Girls von "Beverly Hills 90210". Zum Beispiel die All-Woman Band L7, natürlich Hole, aber auch D'arcy Wretzky von den Smashing Pumpkins. Die elfengleiche D'arcy, D'arcy mit der versteinerten Miene, D'arcy die Bass spielt und singt - ich fand sie toll. Ihren Signatue Look haben vor allem die blonden langen Haare, die "Mir doch egal"-Miene, abgerockte Vintage-Klamotten, rote Lippen und der Bass, ausgemacht. The 90ies revival is everywhere. "Clueless" has become a cult movie, platform boots are back, crop tops too - but the 90ies were so much more than this. It was the time of Nirvana, of Grunge and Alternative Rock. So fortunately there were other role models than Cher Horowitz or the girls of "Beverly Hills 90210" for girls like me. The all-woman band L7 for example, of course Hole and D'arcy Wretzky of the Smashing Pumpkins. The elf-like D'arcy, stony-faced D'arcy, D'arcy who plays bass and sings - I liked her. Her signature look contained long blonde hair, the "I don't care 'bout you or anything else"-look on her face, rocked out vintage shirts, red lips and of course the bass. Das britische Topmodel aus Manchester hat es mit dem Pixie Haarschnitt und lässigen Outfits zwischen Punk und Tomboy geschafft, zur Stilikone einer Generation zu werden. In interviews she appears so naturally and one thing's for sure - she stands out from the common model crowd. Agyness is one of us - with worn out vintage bandshirts, with skinny jeans and bowler hats, with sneakers or Dr. Martens. So that brings her on top of my "my favourite model"-list. Ich für meinen Teil, stehe irgendwo dazwischen. Aber eins ist Fakt wenn es um Nancy geht: diese Frau hatte Style. Sie war die Lady in Black, das Mädchen in Lederkluft, die Frau, deren verspielter und experimentierfreudiger Umgang mit Mode, etliche Frauen nach ihr bis heute stark beeinflusst hat. Neben ihren blonden Locken sind Lederhosen, roter Lippenstift und die Kette mit dem Vorhängeschloss oder einem Pistolenanhänger unverzichtbare Keypieces für den typischen Nancy Look, gefällt er dir?

Sie war, neben Courtney Love, in den späten 90igern definitiv das Role Model für mich. Dramatisch, dunkel, stark. Ihr Look düster und tough. Tairrie B. - die Frontfrau der Band My Ruin (früher Tura Satana bzw. Manhole) hat damals mächtig Eindruck bei mir hinterlassen und so widme ich ihr diesen Post und küre sie zur Style Ikone. Immer wieder finden sich in ihrem Look Anspielungen auf das Christentum - die Dornenkrone oder ein Rosenkranz, Kreuze. Wer die Texte von My Ruin kennt (ja, auch die haben mich beeindruckt), weiß wie das zu interpretieren ist. Kurzum kann man sagen ihr Stil ist unverschnörkelt, tiefschwarz und dramatisch. Die Tattoos, die im Laufe der Zeit immer mehr geworden sind, spielen natürlich auch eine große Rolle, ebenso die finstere Miene, ja, Miss B. lacht nie. Weiterhin definieren üppiger Schmuck, die Farbe Schwarz und ein drastisches Make Up ihren Look. Ihr wollt euren inneren Goth rauslassen und seid auf der Suche nach einem intensiven Look ohne Rüschen? Beside Courtney Love, she definitely was one of my role models in the late nineties. Dramatic, dark, strong. Her look gloomy and tough. Back then Tarrie B. - leadsinger of My Ruin (former Tura Satana and Manhole) has left an impact on me and so I decided to make her a style icon on my blog (as you remember I started this rubric once with Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Consistently you can find christian symbols in her look - the cown of thorns, a rosary, crosses. Who's familiar with the lyrics she wrote knows how to read that (yes, her writing had an impact on me too). In short one can say her style is straightforward, deep black and dramatic. The tattoos define her look also, as well as her saturnine look, yes, Miss B. never smiles. Futhermore big jewelry, the colour black and a dramatic make up are characteristic. You want to let out you inner goth without any ruffles? Than get inspired by the look of Miss B.
