This Halloween was different. No spider webs, no vampire teeth. The anticipation was particularly high though. Like waiting for your birthday to come or for Christmas. Halloween this year started early and lasted a weekend. It got me stuck in front of my laptop for hours, not even noticing how the days went by. It was Goonies-esque and mysterious. It was Sci-Fi poetry. This year, Halloween was all about Stranger Things 2.

What makes this Netflix series so special? It plays with nostalgia in a non-kitsch way. It takes you back to your childhood, back to the days when analogue photography, walkie-talkies and mixtapes were a thing. It celebrates weirdos, it celebrates friendship, all wrapped up in aesthetics between Steven Spielberg, Stephen King and Twin Peaks. While the plot is killing it, the characters have flaws just like you and me. We see individuals struggling with insecurities, preconceptions, guilt and doubt. Strange? What is strange anyway? 

I deeply believe that everybody's a weirdo. We all have an Eleven, a Dustin, a Nancy or a Jonathan inside of us, some even a Demogorgon. Stranger Things is a celebration of the weirdo, a triumph of the nerd. Hawkins is not fancy, Hawkins is normal. Hawkins is not glam but authentic. So style-wise, we get some lessons in simplicity. Motto: Embrace your inner nerd.

Der Februar war mild und freundlich, aber der erste Monat des Jahres war kalt, grau und ungemütlich hier in Berlin - es war also die beste Zeit, um es sich mit einer heißen Tasse Tee unter einer kuscheligen Decke auf dem Sofa gemütlich zu machen und einen schönen Film zu schauen. So geschehen an einem Wochenende im Januar - endlich habe ich "W/E" gesehen, einen fantastischen Film von Madonna. Durch die Doppelhandlung die im heutigen New York spielt, wird die Geschichte von King Edward und Wallis Simpson mal aus einer anderen Perspektive erzählt. Die Rollen finde ich ideal besetzt, der Soundtrack hat mir gut gefallen und außerdem hat mich das überragende Set- und Kostümdesign beeindruckt. Für letzteres wurde die Kostümdesignerin Arianne Phillips sogar für den Oscar nominiert. Neben den extravaganten Outfits von Wallis Simpson haben mir auch die Looks der Wally Winthorp gefallen - klassisch, elegant, feminin und meist schwarz. February was mild and friendly - it almost felt like sping, but january was grey and cold here in Berlin - so it was the best time to curl up on the sofa with a hot cup of tea and watch a good movie. Exactly this happend a few weeks ago, so finally I saw "W/E" - a brilliant movie by Madonna. As soon as the movie started I got soaked into another world because of the fantastic story telling, because of great actors, the beautiful soundtrack and the fabulous set- and costume design. I really fell in love with the look of the movie and of cause with the story behind. Beside the outfits of Wallis Simpson I really liked the look of Wally Winthorp, mostly dressed in black - classy, elegant and feminine. Wart ihr auch in der Stimmung für eine 20ies Party nachdem ihr "The Great Gatsby" gesehen habt? Ich liebe diese Opulenz die einige Baz Luhrmann Filme haben und Art Deco und die Roaring Twenties sind nochmal eine ganz eigene Kategorie exquisiten Eye-Candys. Mir war klar, dass es etwas ganz Großes wird wenn das beides aufeinander trifft. Dementsprechend beeindruckt und ästhetisch geflasht war ich nach dem Film.
