Mit meiner Vorliebe für Pop Art musste ich irgendwann auf die Werke von Conrad C. Jones stoßen. Als es dann passiert ist, war es um mich geschehen. Intensive Portraits in leuchtenden Farben auf Collagen aus Zeitungspapier. Ich liebe diesen lebendigen Ausdruck der Farben, als wäre unmittelbar auf dem Papier eine knallbunte Farbbombe explodiert. Aber nicht nur diese draufgängerische Art Farbe einzusetzen hat mich in Beschlag genommen, auch die reduzierten Konturen, die ästhetische Einfachheit der Portraits, die schon fast ein bisschen an den Stil von Patrick Nagel erinnern. Mit dieser Vermischung verschiedener Stile und Materialien kreiert der Künstler etwas ganz neues Eigenes, das für sich spricht. Conrad C. Jones ist jedoch nicht nur als Maler, sondern auch als Fotograf tätig. a book: One of the first books I read as a child, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. I have never really been into fantasy literature, but this just blew my mind and really got me into reading at young age.

a movie: This is a tricky one, been so many greats. A Clockwork Orange, directed by Stanley Kubrick ... one of the craziest classics.

a city or place: Ho Chi Minh City / Saigon. Visited Vietnam when I was 23 years old, a while ago now. I absolutely loved it. A fascinating city.

a sound or tune: I do a lot of surfing, so for me ... the sound of breaking waves.

a magazine: I have always been obsessed with adventure, National Geographic magazine.

an inspirational quote or a motto: We know what we are, but know not what we may be. William Shakespeare

an artist: Been a huge fan of Jonathan Yeo.

a style icon: The king of cool, Steve McQueen.

With my liking for Pop Art, it was only a matter of time for me, to find out about the art of Conrad C. Jones. When I discovered his work, I immediately fell in love with the bright coloured, intense portraits on newspaper collages. I'm really into his daring use of vivid colours, but the reduced contours, the aesthetical simplicity of the portraits are also speaking for itself. With this mixture of styles and material the artist creates somthing very unique. But Conrad C. Jones isn't just a painter, he is a photographer too.
